Monument to Alexander Pushkin

On the 28-th of May 2011, the monument to the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin was opened in the Museum of Contemporary Art of the City of Rhodes. The monument was presented to Rhodes by the famous Russian sculptor Gregory Pototsky, who is the author of the monuments to Pushkin in 13 countries. The great classic loved Greece very much and believed that it was the Greeks who were closest in spirit to the Russian people. “Now the bust of the Russian classic stands in the old building of the municipal art gallery in the very center of medieval Rhodes,” said the sculptor – all the sculptures of Pushkin I created are different!”

The opening ceremony of the monument was attended by the Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture at the Russian Embassy in Athens, the Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo Alexander Khomenko, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Greece Georgios Nikitiadis, the Governor of the South Aegean region, the Mayor of Rhodes and honored guests.
